Should I Outsource Ad Management to an Agency or Do It Myself?

Should you hand ad management to an agency or do it yourself? An honest comparison and decision guide covering time, budget, creative and measurement.

Should I Outsource Ad Management to an Agency or Do It Myself?

Should I hand my ad management to an agency or do it myself? This question comes up, openly or implicitly, in most of our first meetings. The honest answer: it depends, and an agency is not the right choice for every business. It may seem odd for an agency to write this, but a partnership that starts with the wrong expectations hurts both sides. In this article we lay out, concretely, the five factors that shape the decision and which path makes sense in which situation.

Factor 1: Time

Ad management is not a one-time setup; it is daily work. A healthy Meta or Google account needs a few hours a week of reading reports, adjusting audiences and keywords, replying to comments and preparing new creatives. If you as the business owner can set those hours aside regularly, you can do it yourself. If you can't, the account slips into "set and forget" mode; creatives fatigue, costs rise, and eventually it gets switched off with "ads don't work." In most of the failing accounts we see, the problem isn't knowledge, it's time.

Factor 2: Budget size

The agency fee should be considered in proportion to the ad budget. If your monthly ad budget is a few thousand lira, adding tens of thousands of lira in management fees on top makes little mathematical sense. At that scale, it is more sensible to learn and do it yourself, or to get a one-off setup and training. As the budget grows, the equation flips: in an account spending 50.000 lira a month, a 15–20 percent efficiency gain covers the entire agency fee. For budget calculations, see our budget guide.

Factor 3: Creative production capacity

This is the real issue that is most often overlooked. The main factor that determines results in Meta ads is the creative, and the creative should be refreshed every 2–4 weeks. If you can shoot video, design and write copy yourself, you have an advantage. If you can't, buying only "ad account management" falls short; a well-built campaign won't perform well with weak creative. That is why our social media package combines Reels shoots, drone, design and ad management; account management on its own isn't enough.

Factor 4: Measurement and technical infrastructure

Pixel, Conversions API, Google conversion tags, the Google Analytics connection, e-commerce platform integration. Set up correctly once, these serve you for a long time; set up wrong, every report misleads you. If you don't have someone who can build the technical setup, at least outsource this part; afterwards you can try handling day-to-day management yourself.

Factor 5: Willingness to learn

Ad platforms change every month. If you manage them yourself, you have to keep up with new features, run tests and learn from mistakes, and it genuinely has to interest you. If it doesn't, half-hearted management can cost more than no management at all.

When managing it yourself makes sense

1. Small budget, single goal. If you spend a few thousand lira a month and only target messages or followers.

2. You already produce content. If someone on your team handles video and design.

3. You can make the time. If you can consistently dedicate a few hours a week to it.

When working with an agency makes sense

1. Your budget is scaling. As monthly spend grows, small efficiency gaps turn into big money.

2. You can't produce creative. Working with one team that covers shooting, editing and design is cheaper and faster than coordinating three separate vendors.

3. You run multiple channels. If Meta, Google, your website and SEO run together, a single point of contact makes things easier.

Five questions to ask when choosing an agency

Whose name is the ad account opened in (it should be yours)? What does the report show (revenue, cost per result, ROAS; not just reach and likes)? Is creative production included? What are the contract length and exit terms? How many accounts do they manage, and how much time will they devote to you? Our ROAS guide will help you learn to read a ROAS report; this knowledge also makes it easier to hold the agency accountable.

The middle path: a hybrid model

You can have the agency handle setup, audience architecture and tracking infrastructure while running daily monitoring yourself; or get creatives from the agency and manage the ad dashboard yourself. This model works well for businesses with a mid-sized budget and a willingness to learn.

At FG Production, we offer Meta ad management from 16.000₺ and Google Ads management from 12.000₺ per month; the ad account is always opened in your name, and the monthly report focuses on results and costs. If you'd like to discuss which model suits you, get in touch; we'd also be glad if you read our client reviews before deciding.
