If two businesses offering the same service in the same district have 120 reviews at 4.9 stars and 3 reviews respectively, it is obvious which one the customer will call. Google reviews directly affect both your ranking in map results and the decision of whether to call you. The answer to how to get more Google reviews is not buying fake ones; it is building a system for asking happy customers for a review at the right moment, with the least effort. In this article, we walk through the methods we use in our own business and with our clients, one by one.
Why Are Google Reviews So Effective?
For local searches like "near me" and "... company in Izmir", Google puts the map pack front and center, and when choosing the three businesses shown there it weighs review count, rating and review recency among its key signals. The words used in review texts ("drone shoot", "website") also influence which services Google matches you with. In other words, reviews mean both trust and visibility.
Step 1: Prepare Your Review Link
In your Google Business Profile dashboard, you can get a short personalised link from the "Ask for reviews" section; this link opens the review window directly. Shorten it and keep it ready to send on WhatsApp, add to your email signature and put at the bottom of invoices. Directing customers with "find us on Google, click the business, go to the reviews tab" seriously lowers your review rate; it should open with a single tap.
Step 2: Catch the Right Moment
Ask for a review at the moment satisfaction peaks. The minute a client says "this looks great" after a brand film delivery; right before the bill arrives at a restaurant; 2–3 days after an e-commerce order is delivered. Once weeks pass, the request is forgotten. Make it clear who on your team will catch that moment; "everyone should ask" usually means "nobody asks."
Step 3: Use a Short, Personal Message
A template that works for WhatsApp: "Hello Ms. Ayşe, it was a pleasure working with you on your project. If you could share your experience on Google in two sentences, it would really help our new customers: [link]. Thank you!" The message should be personal, short and contain a single request. Bulk, robotic messages both lower response rates and damage brand perception.
Step 4: Place QR Codes at Physical Locations
If you have a store, showroom, café or office, turn the review link into a QR code and place it by the till, on tables, at the exit and in delivery packages. A one-line call like "Rate us on Google, it takes 30 seconds" is enough. A verbal reminder from the team usually multiplies the QR code's effect.
Step 5: Reply to Every Review
Reply to positive reviews within 1–2 days with a short, personal thank-you; template replies get noticed. Reply to negative reviews calmly and with a focus on solutions, without getting defensive: acknowledge the problem and offer to get in touch to make it right. A mature reply to a negative review raises your rating in the eyes of other customers who read it. Replies also show Google that the profile is active.
What Not to Do
1. Buying fake reviews. When Google detects them, it doesn't just delete the reviews; it can suspend the profile, and it also carries legal risk. 2. Promising discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews. This violates Google's policies. 3. Filtering so you only ask customers you know will be happy. This also counts as a policy violation; ask everyone and raise satisfaction through your process. 4. Getting employees and relatives to write them. The numbers go up in the short term, but trust and the profile suffer in the long run.
Connect Reviews to the Rest of Your SEO
Showcase your reviews on your website's homepage and service pages, and share them on social media in a "what our customer said" format. Make sure the address, phone number and opening hours on your profile match your website exactly; this consistency is one of the local signals on the technical SEO checklist. For local businesses, reviews are the fastest-acting part of the authority pillar of SEO.
What Is a Realistic Goal?
3–5 new, genuine reviews a month is a pace that is both sustainable for most local businesses and makes a difference in map rankings. Keeping that pace up for a year builds a much stronger profile than trying to collect hundreds of reviews in one month.
At FG Production, we apply this system in our own business too; these exact methods are behind our 5.0 rating on Google. You can see our clients' reviews in the reviews section, and get in touch with us about our SEO package, which also covers Google Business Profile optimisation.
